Expert Interview: 20 Years of Storm Roofing in Katy
A veteran Katy roofer on hurricane prep, insurance games, and the questions every homeowner should ask after a storm.
Few people see the inside of more Katy homes than a working roofer. We sat down with a veteran local roofer to discuss what changes after a major storm season.
On insurance and your roof
"Most people don't realize their wind/hail deductible is a percentage of their dwelling coverage, not a flat $1,000. On a $400k home, that's $4-8k out of pocket. After a hailstorm, factor that in before deciding to file."
On 'free inspections'
"If a roofer rings your doorbell, you don't need them. The good local roofers — the ones on Experts of Katy — are too busy doing real work to be cold-knocking neighborhoods."
On the warranty fine print
"Manufacturer warranty (like GAF's Golden Pledge) is separate from workmanship warranty. Get both in writing. A 5-year workmanship warranty from a roofer who's been local 10+ years is real protection."
